Buffalo beats Burlington 4-0 as Mueller gains shutout

Brandon Mueller made 25 saves to complete the shutout and led the Buffalo Jr. Sabres to a 4-0 win against the Burlington Cougars.

Nolan Sheeran had a great game for Buffalo, netting two goals. Sheeran found the back of the net on the power play 4:58 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Buffalo and again while 18:02 into the third to make the score 4-0 Buffalo.

The Jr. Sabres racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 11 minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. Buffalo surpassed its season average of 18.0 penalty minutes per game. The Jr. Sabres excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. Buffalo was steadier on the defensive front than it has been for much of this season. The Jr. Sabres allow 3.0 goals per game. Buffalo kept Burlington's goalie busy throughout the game, and Devin Tappendan made 37 saves on 41 shots.

Ryan Schmelzer also scored for Buffalo. Other players who recorded assists for Buffalo were Pat Egan, who had two and David Hopfer, Nick Desimone, Ben Casale, and Nico Gonzalez, who each chipped in one.

The Cougars did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Burlington puts an average of 2.5 pucks into the net per game. The Cougars were often in penalty trouble, as it ended with nine minors and two majors for 28 minutes in penalty time.

The Jr. Sabres registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. For Buffalo, Josh Gabriel was ejected from the game. Team's Mark Rowe and Jonathon Kries were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
