Buffalo vanquishes Whitby in shootout, 4-3 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Buffalo Jr. Sabres defeated the Whitby Fury in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for six attempts between the teams.

Buffalo came back from a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Jr. Sabres trailed 3-0 after a goal by Whitby's Jeff Murray at 4:39 in the second period. Buffalo knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Pat Egan at 12:26 in the third period.

Egan was all over the ice for the Jr. Sabres, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win.

Buffalo stifled the Fury's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Jr. Sabres kept Whitby's goalie busy throughout the game, and Tyler Feaver made 29 saves on 33 shots.

Buffalo also got points from Ryan Schmelzer, who also had one goal and two assists and Nick Desimone, who also tallied one goal and one assist. More assists for Buffalo came via Nico Gonzalez, who had one.

The Fury's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Buffalo power plays. Buffalo was unable to stop Whitby from sending pucks towards the net, and the Fury eventually piled up 44 shots on goal.

Mike Panowyk also scored for Whitby. Other players who recorded assists for Whitby were Henry Thompson, Taylor Best, and Mitch Emerson, who contributed one a piece.

Joseph Pianta recorded 41 saves for the Jr. Sabres. Buffalo incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Whitby incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
