Machalski leads Wellington to shutout victory over Newmarket

The Wellington Dukes used a sparkling performance by Lucas Machalski to take down the Newmarket Hurricanes, as the netminder did not allow a goal in Wellington's 6-0 shutout victory.

The Dukes were paced by Spencer Turcotte, who grabbed one goal. Turcotte scored 9:10 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wellington. Parker Wood provided the assist.

Wellington made Newmarket's netminders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, getting 33 shots and forcing 27 saves. Jake Danson made nine stops and Jophrey Gregoire made 18. The Dukes put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Hurricanes to score on any of their four power plays. Wellington's defense was surprisingly good. The Dukes average 2.4 goals allowed per game.

Wellington additionally got points from Trevor Cope, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Kyle Paat, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Cody Gratton, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Steven Deeg, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Mike Soucier also scored for Wellington. In addition, Wellington received assists from Erick Delaurentis, who had two and Jacob Hetherington and Jacob Panetta, who contributed one a piece.

Newmarket's offense operated below it season average. The Hurricanes average 3.6 goals per game. Wellington was unable to stop Newmarket from sending pucks towards the net, and the Hurricanes eventually piled up 38 shots on goal.

Machalski recorded 38 saves for the Dukes. Wellington incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. For the Dukes, Turcotte was ejected from the game. Newmarket incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
