Mississauga downs Buffalo in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

Ryan Hunter gave the Mississauga Chargers a 5-4 (OT) victory over the Buffalo Jr. Sabres when he scored 4:38 into the extra period.

Mississauga kept Buffalo's goalie busy throughout the game, and Joseph Pianta made 28 saves on 33 shots. The Chargers could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game.

Mississauga was led by Vince Figliomeni, who finished with three goals. Mississauga also got points from Patrick Mooney, who also registered one goal and one assist. More assists for Mississauga came via Jackson Howe, Tyler Cooper, Zackery Landsfield, and Nick Tetley, who each chipped in one.

The Jr. Sabres racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and one major for 23 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 17.0 minutes per game Buffalo had been spending in the box. The Jr. Sabres forced the Chargers goalie Austin Washkurak to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots. Buffalo got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

The Jr. Sabres were helped by Nick Smith, who tallied one goal. Smith scored on the power play 7:51 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Buffalo. Buffalo had gained a power play chance when Alex Mills was whistled for hooking. Darren McCormick assisted on the tally. Buffalo additionally got points from Mason Evans, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Nick Desimone, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Buffalo also got a goal from Max Mikowski as well. Other players who recorded assists for Buffalo were Pat Egan, who had one.

Washkurak rejected 34 shots on goal for Mississauga. The Chargers registered two goals on six power play opportunities. The Jr. Sabres registered three goals on eight power play opportunities. For Buffalo, Nico Gonzalez and Tim Kielich were ejected from the contest.
