yToronto Lakeshore uses early goal to top Oakville, 4-2

Andreas Tsogkas scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and the yToronto Lakeshore Patriots held off the challenges of the Oakville Blades in a tough 4-2 win.

yToronto Lakeshore took over the lead for good with a goal by Tsogkas at 12:04 in the first period. Michael Prapavessis assisted on the tally.

The Patriots were paced by Robert Powers, who tallied one goal. Powers scored 6:06 into the second period to make the score 3-1 yToronto Lakeshore. Niko Kovachis provided the assist.

yToronto Lakeshore excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Patriots' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

yToronto Lakeshore also got points from Tsogkas, who also registered one goal and two assists. yToronto Lakeshore also had goals scored by Cory Laver and Brandon Willett, who scored one goal each. In addition, yToronto Lakeshore received assists from Luke Carter, Doug Bonar, and Kevin Shier, who each chipped in one.

Oakville was often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The Blades had been averaging 18.0 minutes in penalties per game.

Oakville was helped by Jackson Bales, who finished with one goal. Bales scored 12:47 into the third period to make the score 3-2 yToronto Lakeshore. Sean Kohler assisted on the tally. David Dischiavi also scored for Oakville. Other players who recorded assists for Oakville were Mark Bzowey, who had one.

Evan Buitenhuis made 26 saves for yToronto Lakeshore on 28 shots. The Patriots incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. yToronto Lakeshore ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Shier was ejected from the game. The Blades' starting goalie, Brendan McGlynn, made nine saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Mark Manolescu, who stopped 16 shots. For Oakville, Daniel Jelic and Kris Bennet were ejected from the contest.
