Wellington vanquishes Whitby in shootout, 5-4 (2-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Wellington Dukes defeated the Whitby Fury in a shootout 5-4 (2-0 SO).

The shootout featured four attempts between both teams. In addition to the clincher, Wellington got a shootout goal from Luc Brown.

The Dukes were led by Erick Delaurentis, who registered one goal. Delaurentis scored on the power play 6:49 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wellington. Wellington had gotten the advantage when Whitby's Mitch Emerson was sent off for goalie interference. Jacob Panetta assisted on the tally.

The Dukes kept the Fury's goalie busy throughout the game, and Tyler Feaver made 37 saves on 42 shots.

Wellington additionally got points from Andrew Coupland, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Trevor Cope, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Spencer Turcotte also scored for Wellington. Other players who recorded assists for Wellington were Brown, Mike Soucier, and Cody Gratton, who each chipped in one.

Whitby's offense rang up 39 shots on Wellington's net. The defensemen of the Fury were also effective in the Dukes' zone, and came away with two goals. Whitby could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game.

Lucas Machalski rejected 35 shots on goal for Wellington. The Dukes incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors. The Fury registered one goal on four power play opportunities.
