Burlington holds on for 5-4 win against LindsayLindsay Recreation Centre Fri, Sep 13, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Burlington Cougars survived a determined comeback attempt by the Lindsay Muskies on the way to a 5-4 win. Burlington took a 5-2 lead during the third period, only to have Lindsay storm back on a Austin Brown goal 19:57 into the third period to pull to one goal down. Jeremy Gottzmann was all over the ice for the Cougars, as he tallied two goals and two assists in the win. Gottzmann scored the first of his two goals at 10:29 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Burlington. Riley Dunda assisted on the tally. Gottzmann's next tally made the score Burlington with 15:41 left in the third period. Burlington had gotten the advantage when the Muskies' Joseph Vocino was sent off for boarding. Dunda provided the assist. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 7:18 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts. The Cougars stifled Lindsay's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Muskies were unable to stop Burlington from sending pucks towards the net, and the Cougars eventually piled up 43 shots on goal. Burlington was hit hard by penalties in the contest, and totaled eight minors and two majors for 36 minutes in penalty time. Burlington additionally got points from Steven Mueller, who also tallied one goal and three assists and Dunda, who also registered one goal and two assists. Tyler Lepore also scored for Burlington. In addition, Burlington received assists from Neil Aird, Jordan Brown, and Adam Burnett, who contributed one a piece. Lindsay forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and two majors for 34 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 24.0 minutes per game the Muskies had been spending in the box. Lindsay kept the Cougars' goalie busy throughout the game, and Devin Tappendan made 42 saves on 46 shots. The Muskies were led by Austin Eastman, who had two goals. Eastman scored the first of his two goals at 17:45 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Davis Gadjovich assisted on the tally. Eastman's next tally made the score 3-2 Burlington with 8:03 left in the second period. Gadjovich picked up the assist. Lindsay also got a goal from Jake Ryan as well. More assists for Lindsay came via Stefan Von Egelbrechten, who had one. Burlington registered two goals on six power play opportunities. Team's Ryan Sullivan, Skillicorn Garrek, and Burnett were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Mathew Robson rejected 38 shots on goal for Lindsay. The Muskies registered zero goals on seven power play opportunities. For Lindsay, Vince Herlihey, Brock Spear, and Bryce Sweeting were ejected from the contest.
