Milton squeaks by Stouffville, 3-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Milton Icehawks escaped with a 3-2 victory over the Stouffville Spirit.

Milton gained the winning advantage on a goal by Alex Riche 16:57 into the second period and hung on until final buzzer.

The Icehawks pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 28 penalty minutes.

Milton was paced by Riche, who registered one goal.

The Icehawks forced Stouffville goalie Daniel Mannella to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

Milton also got a goal from Kane Elliot as well. In addition, Milton received assists from Troy Saunders, TJ Fergus, and Tye Campbell, who contributed one a piece.

The Spirit could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Stouffville puts an average of 4.5 pucks into the net per game. The Spirit kept Milton's goalie busy throughout the game, and Tyler Lewis made 39 saves on 41 shots. Stouffville was ineffective while on the power play, as it was held to one goal off of 10 man advantages.

The Spirit were helped by Peyton Backus, who tallied one goal. Backus scored 51 seconds into the second period to make the score 2-1 Stouffville. Matthew Heffernan provided the assist. Michael Carcone also scored for Stouffville. More assists for Stouffville came via Kyler Challis and Joseph Deveny, who each chipped in one.

The Icehawks registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Milton ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Campbell was ejected from the game. Mannella rejected 28 shots on goal for Stouffville. The Spirit incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
