Newmarket completes comeback, beats Whitby, 5-4

Undaunted by a two-goal deficit, the Newmarket Hurricanes battled back to claim a 5-4 victory over the Whitby Fury.

Newmarket never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Hurricanes was down 3-1 after a goal by Whitby's Taylor Best at 15:55 in the second period. Newmarket knotted things up at 4-4 on a goal by Brandon Francisco at 1:48 in the third period. The Hurricanes scored the game winner at 12:27 in the third period on a goal by Francisco.

Newmarket's penalty kill excelled, as the Hurricanes gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

The Fury were unable to stop Newmarket from sending pucks towards the net, and the Hurricanes eventually piled up 31 shots on goal. Newmarket cashed in on power play opportunities, scoring two goals on three chances. The Hurricanes were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 26 penalty minutes.

Newmarket was led by Thomas Beretta, who racked up one goal and one assist. Newmarket also got points from Francisco, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Newmarket also got a goal from Kyle Stephan as well. Other players who recorded assists for Newmarket were Adam Smith, Taylor Joseph, and Justin Maiolino, who each chipped in one and Christian Dedonato and Shaquille Hickey, who contributed two a piece.

Whitby forced the Hurricanes goalie Jophrey Gregoire to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots.

Henry Thompson also scored for Whitby. In addition, Whitby received assists from Jonathan OHara, who had three and Mike Panowyk, Jeff Murray, and Greg Milner, who each chipped in one.

Jophrey Gregoire made 37 saves for Newmarket on 41 shots. Tyler Feaver recorded 26 saves for the Fury. Whitby incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
