Cumberland blows out Ottawa, 5-2

The Cumberland Grads had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-2 win over the Ottawa Senators.

Cumberland pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 19 penalty minutes.

The Grads were led by David Bennett, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Bennett scored on the power play 13:33 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Cumberland. Cumberland had gained a power play chance when Mike Martin was whistled for roughing. Nicholas Ford picked up the assist.

The Grads bested their season scoring average. Cumberland averages 2.8 goals per game.

Cumberland additionally got points from Riley Hennigar, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Travis Douglas also scored for Cumberland. In addition, Cumberland received assists from Matthew Morin, who had two and Bobby Williams, Andrew Rossy, Jean-Gabriel Lacombe, Nicholas Ngwafusi, and Dylan McDonald, who each chipped in one.

Ottawa's offense operated below it season average. The Senators average 4.1 goals per game.

Ottawa was helped by Yannick Crete, who racked up one goal. Crete scored 7:27 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Ottawa. Eric Clitsome provided the assist. Ottawa also got a goal from Ryan Collins as well. More assists for Ottawa came via Deric Boudreau and Zac Tierney, who contributed one a piece.

Kevin Gollmer rejected 24 shots on goal for the Grads. Cumberland registered one goal on four power play opportunities. The Grads ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Bruno Cheff was ejected from the game. Alexandre Savard-Belanger recorded 21 saves for the Senators. Ottawa totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-6 on the power play. For the Senators, Martin was ejected from the game.
