Cornwall outlasts Kanata, 4-2

The game between the Cornwall Colts and the Kanata Stallions was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Cornwall emerged with a 4-2 win.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Dean Derouchie's goal in the second period proved to be the difference maker.

The Colts were sparked by Grant Cooper, who racked up one goal. Cooper scored 9:23 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Cornwall. Marly Quince assisted on the tally.

Cornwall also got points from Kevin Hope, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Cornwall also got a goal from Tanner Spink as well. More assists for Cornwall came via Ross Craig, Parker Krol, Lawson MacDougall, Pierre Ouellette, and Kenny Nelson, who each chipped in one.

Kanata managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Stallions finished below its season average of 18.0 penalty minutes per game.

Kanata was helped by Braedan Moffatt, who registered one goal. Moffatt scored 19:59 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Kanata. Connor Cobbold picked up the assist. JP Langlois also scored for Kanata. In addition, Kanata received assists from Jeremy Carigan and Alex Stothart, who contributed one a piece.

James Edwardson recorded 26 saves for Cornwall. The Colts incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. The Stallions' Cole Skinner stopped 26 shots out of the 30 that he faced. Kanata registered zero goals on two power play opportunities.
