Carleton Place vanquishes Kanata in shootout, 4-3 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Carleton Place Canadians defeated the Kanata Stallions in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO).

The shootout featured six attempts between both teams.

Carleton Place saw a three-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. The Canadians made the score 3-0 on a power play goal by Andy Sturtz at 2:13 in the third period. Kanata evened things up at 3-3 on a power play goal by Jason Brochu at 16:19 in the third period.

Sturtz was all over the ice for Carleton Place, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Sturtz scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 4:15 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Carleton Place. The Canadians had gotten the advantage when the Stallions' David Higgs was sent off for roughing. Larry Smith provided the assist. Sturtz's next tally on the power play made the score Carleton Place with 17:47 left in the third period. Evan Peterson picked up the assist.

Carleton Place kept Kanata's goalie busy throughout the game, and Cole Skinner made 33 saves on 37 shots.

Carleton Place also got points from Peterson, who also tallied one goal and one assist. In addition, Carleton Place received assists from Stephen Bayliss, who had one and Kelly Summers, who had two.

The Canadians were unable to stop the Stallions from sending pucks towards the net, and Kanata eventually piled up 34 shots on goal.

The Stallions were helped by Devin Fullum, who racked up one goal. Fullum scored 13:29 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Carleton Place. JP Langlois assisted on the tally. Kanata also got a goal from Connor Cobbold as well. Other players who recorded assists for Kanata were Chris Harper, who had two and Kris Myllari and Ben Fanjoy, who each chipped in one.

Justin Laforest made 31 saves for Carleton Place on 34 shots. The Canadians totaled nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 2-for-5 on the power play. Carleton Place ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Tyson Stewart was ejected from the game. Kanata totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play.
