Cumberland hangs on, beats Kanata 4-2

The Cumberland Grads beat the Kanata Stallions, 4-2, in a contest where the winning goal was scored in the first period but the game remained close throughout.

A goal 10:08 into the the first period by Maxime St.Pierre proved to be the game winner, and powered Cumberland to the victory David Bennett provided the assist.

The Grads got the win behind a great game by Mark Golberg, who had two goals and one assist. Golberg scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 14:37 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Cumberland. Cumberland earned a power play opportunity when Devin Fullum was put in the box for roughing. Riley Hennigar assisted on the tally. Golberg's next tally on the power play made the score 4-2 Cumberland with 56 seconds left in the third period.

The Grads' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Kanata power plays. Cumberland forced Kanata goalie Daniel McCarthy to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots.

Cumberland also got points from Hennigar, who also had one goal and one assist. In addition, Cumberland received assists from Bobby Williams, Travis Douglas, and Jean-Gabriel Lacombe, who contributed one a piece.

The Stallions were helped by Jason Brochu, who racked up one goal. Brochu scored short handed 8:26 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Cumberland. An interference call on Kasey Kulczycki put Kanata on the penalty kill. Fullum picked up the assist. Kanata also got a goal from Alex Robinson as well. Other players who recorded assists for Kanata were Braedan Moffatt, who had one.

Reilly Turner rejected 26 shots on goal for the Grads. Cumberland incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. McCarthy recorded 37 saves for the Stallions. Kanata incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
