Ottawa wins tough contest against Cumberland, 4-2

The game between the Ottawa Senators and the Cumberland Grads was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Ottawa emerged with a 4-2 win.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Hunter Racine at 15:09 of the third period.

In a losing effort, Cumberland was led by Travis Douglas, who grabbed two goals. Douglas scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 2:48 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Ottawa. A slashing penalty on Shawn Lynch had put the Grads on the power play. Bobby Williams provided the assist. Douglas' next tally on the power play made the score 2-2 with 7:15 left in the second period. Cumberland had taken the advantage when the Senators' Chris King got sent off for slashing. David Bennett picked up the assist.

In the losing effort, the Grads were sparked by Douglas, who finished with two goals.

Ottawa made Cumberland's goaltenders to work all game long, getting 35 shots and forcing 31 saves. Reilly Turner made 21 stops and Kevin Gollmer made 10.

Ottawa also got points from Ryan Collins, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Robert Michel also scored for Ottawa. More assists for Ottawa came via Mike Martin, who had one and Eric Clitsome and Joey Champigny, who contributed two a piece.

The Grads excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances.

In addition, Cumberland received assists from Tyler Pancel and Mark Golberg, who each chipped in one.

Alexandre Savard-Belanger rejected 21 shots on goal for the Senators. Ottawa incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Cumberland incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
