Carleton Place outlasts Smiths Falls, 5-3

The Carleton Place Canadians gutted out a close 5-3 win against the Smiths Falls Bears.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Kelly Summers secured the win for Carleton Place with a goal in the third period.

Evan Peterson was all over the ice for the Canadians, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Peterson scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 10:02 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Carleton Place. Carleton Place had gotten the advantage when Smiths Falls' Chris MacMillan was sent off for roughing. Brett DAndrea picked up the assist. Peterson's next tally on the power play made the score 5-3 Carleton Place with four seconds left in the third period. Vinny Post provided the assist.

Carleton Place also got points from DAndrea, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Brett Everson also scored for Carleton Place. More assists for Carleton Place came via Larry Smith, Devin Campbell, Andy Sturtz, Luke Edwards, and Craig Pefley, who each chipped in one.

The Bears were helped by Stefano Momesso, who finished with one goal. Momesso scored on the power play 11:59 into the first period to make the score 1-1. A tripping penalty on Jim Roll had put Smiths Falls on the power play. Brett Costello picked up the assist. Smiths Falls also got a goal from Alek Deblois as well. In addition, Smiths Falls received assists from Domenic Camastra, Daniel Lombardi, and Victor Beaulac, who contributed one a piece.

Cory Simic rejected 21 shots on goal for the Canadians. Carleton Place incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Nicholas Hodgins recorded 15 saves for the Bears. Smiths Falls incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
