Kemptville wins tough contest against Kanata, 5-3

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Kemptville 73s escaped with a 5-3 victory over the Kanata Stallions.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Matt Martin's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Kemptville's penalty kill excelled, as the 73s gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

Kemptville was sparked by Martin, who grabbed one goal. Martin scored 17:15 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Kemptville. Jesse Blais picked up the assist.

Kanata was unable to stop the 73s from sending pucks towards the net, and Kemptville eventually piled up 31 shots on goal.

Kemptville also got points from Brandon Seatter, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Phil Smith also scored for Kemptville. In addition, Kemptville received assists from Aaron Hickie, Olivier Chabot, Jonathan Cyr, and Hayden Hanson, who each chipped in one.

The Stallions' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Kemptville power plays.

Kanata was helped by Alex Stothart, who registered one goal. Stothart scored 1:35 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Jeremy Carigan assisted on the tally. Kanata also got a goal from Ian Johnson as well. More assists for Kanata came via Jason Brochu, Devin Fullum, and Braedan Moffatt, who contributed one a piece.

Jacob Tugnutt made 18 saves for the 73s on 21 shots. Kemptville incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Stallions' Cole Skinner stopped 26 shots out of the 30 that he faced. Kanata incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
