Newmarket hangs on, beats St. Michaels 3-2

The Newmarket Hurricanes took the lead against the St. Michaels Buzzers in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 3-2 victory.

A goal 3:09 into the the first period by Taylor Chick proved to be the game winner, and powered Newmarket to the victory Thomas Beretta provided the assist.

The Hurricanes evened the best of seven series at 3-3 and forced a deciding game seven.

Newmarket was sparked by Austin Rigney, who tallied one goal. Rigney scored 16:13 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Newmarket. Justin Maiolino picked up the assist.

The Hurricanes stifled St. Michaels' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Buzzers were unable to stop Newmarket from sending pucks towards the net, and the Hurricanes eventually piled up 33 shots on goal.

Newmarket also got a goal from Chris Chiste as well. In addition, Newmarket received assists from Kyler Nixon, who had one and Daniel Leavens, who had two.

St. Michaels forced Newmarket goalie Matthew Wintjes to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots.

The Buzzers were led by Jake Evans, who finished with one goal and one assist. Evans scored 7:42 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Newmarket. Mike Lansdowne provided the assist. Stephen Pietrobon also scored for St. Michaels. More assists for St. Michaels came via Troy Josephs, who had one.

Matthew Wintjes made 32 saves for the Hurricanes on 34 shots. Newmarket incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Adrian Ignagni rejected 30 shots on goal for St. Michaels. The Buzzers incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
