St. Michaels hangs on, beats Newmarket 1-0

Matt Galati scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and the St. Michaels Buzzers held off the challenges of the Newmarket Hurricanes in a tough 1-0 win.

A goal 9:45 into the the first period by Galati proved to be the game winner, and powered St. Michaels to the victory The Buzzers earned a power play opportunity when Jeff Murray was put in the box for tripping. Jordan Merante provided the assist.

The win moved St. Michaels to down 2-1 in the best of seven series.

Adrian Ignagni spearheaded the defensive effort for the Buzzers, as he did not allow a puck past him and made 39 saves for the shutout. The solid play of Ignagni will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.63.

St. Michaels' penalty kill excelled, as the Buzzers gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

St. Michaels stifled Newmarket's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Buzzers kept the Hurricanes' goalie busy throughout the game, and Matthew Wintjes made 33 saves on 34 shots.

In addition, St. Michaels received assists from Shane Conacher, who had one.

St. Michaels was unable to stop Newmarket from sending pucks towards the net, and the Hurricanes eventually piled up 39 shots on goal.

The Buzzers incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Newmarket incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
