Newmarket downs St. Michaels in overtime, 4-3 (OT)

Ryan Johnson gave the Newmarket Hurricanes a 4-3 (OT) victory over the St. Michaels Buzzers when he scored 8:06 into the extra period.

The win gave Newmarket a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Although the Hurricanes was up by as many as two goals in the second period, St. Michaels kept the game interesting by staging a comeback that ultimately fell short. The Buzzers pulled to within 2-1 on a goal by Matt Galati at 1:31 in the third period.

Newmarket's offense rang up 48 shots on St. Michaels' net.

Jeff Murray also scored for Newmarket. More assists for Newmarket came via Jordan Dunin, who had two and Sean Walker, Calvin Higley, Kyler Nixon, and Thomas Beretta, who contributed one a piece.

The Buzzers kept the Hurricanes' goalie busy throughout the game, and Matthew Wintjes made 45 saves on 48 shots.

St. Michaels also got points from Jordan Merante, who also had one goal and one assist. St. Michaels also got a goal from Troy Josephs as well. In addition, St. Michaels received assists from CJ Shugart, who had one and Shane Conacher, who had two.

Newmarket totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. The Hurricanes ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and David Savery was ejected from the game. Adrian Ignagni made 44 saves for St. Michaels on 48 shots. The Buzzers totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. For St. Michaels, Shugart was ejected from the game.
