Pensacola hangs on, beats Huntsville 2-0

The Pensacola Ice Flyers beat the Huntsville Havoc, 2-0, in a contest where the winning goal was scored in the first period but the game remained close throughout.

Patrick Knowlton provided Pensacola with the game-winning tally when he scored 2:07 into the the first period. John Dunbar picked up the assist.

The win by the Ice Flyers clinched the best of three series at 2-1.

Pensacola was boosted by Ross MacKinnon, who turned in a shutout with 28 saves. The solid play of MacKinnon will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 1.24.

The Ice Flyers were led by Knowlton, who grabbed one goal.

Pensacola forced Huntsville goalie Jesse Kallechy to work between the pipes, taking 46 shots.

Brad Cooper also scored for Pensacola. Other players who recorded assists for Pensacola were Jordan Chong and Brandon Vossberg, who each chipped in one.

The Havoc did not rack up many penalties in the contest, finishing with just one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Huntsville relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Nick Lazorko, Aaron McGill and Justin Fox took 16 of the team's 28 shots.

The Ice Flyers incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Jesse Kallechy made 44 saves for the Havoc on 46 shots. Huntsville registered zero goals on two power play opportunities.
