Hunter Leisner stood on his head and made 35 saves to lead the Texas Tornado to a 2-1 victory over the Topeka RoadRunners. The win gave Texas a 1-0 lead in the best of five series. The Tornado were led by CJ Reuschlein, who registered one goal. Reuschlein scored 5:39 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Texas. Jason Eddy provided the assist. Texas relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Andrew Mayer, Reuschlein and Max Shuart took nine of the team's 15 shots. Topeka excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The RoadRunners were led by Tyler Andrew, who scored the team's only goal. Andrew scored on the power play 18:40 into the second period to make the score 1-1. A cross checking penalty on Nick Blas had put Topeka on the power play. Kevin Patterson picked up the assist. Texas incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Spencer Viele rejected 13 shots on goal for the RoadRunners. Topeka incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
