McDonnell's big game bests Springfield in 7-1 Kalamazoo win

Mac McDonnell was all over the ice for the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings, as he tallied two goals and one assist in Kalamazoo's 7-1 win over the Springfield Jr. Blues.

McDonnell scored at 11:59 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Kalamazoo and again while 15:43 into the second to make the score 7-0 Kalamazoo.

After the loss made the series score 1-0 in the best of three series, Springfield faces elimination next time out.

The Jr. K-Wings made Jr. Blues' goaltenders to work all game long, launching 39 shots and forcing 32 saves. Matt Leon made 16 stops and Ryan Kellenberger made 16.

Kalamazoo also got points from Taylor Burden, who also had one goal and one assist and Luc Boby, who also registered one goal and one assist. Kalamazoo also got a goal from Patrick Spellacy as well. More assists for Kalamazoo came via Mike Fazio, who had three, Matt Wurst and Brett Beauvais, who contributed one a piece, and Trevor Boyd and Christian George, who each chipped in two.

The Jr. Blues relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Jack Sloan, Parker Johnson and Alex Baskakov took 10 of the team's 18 shots. Springfield's defensemen bolstered the Jr. Blues' offensive attack, as they bombarded Marcus Due-Boje with eight shots.

Due-Boje recorded 17 saves for Kalamazoo. The Jr. K-Wings incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Springfield incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
