Collins nets hat trick, leads Ottawa to 5-0 win over Nepean

Ryan Collins netted a hat trick to lead the Ottawa Senators over the Nepean Raiders, 5-0.

Collins notched his first tally 2:36 into the first period. He then added goals at 4:28 into the first and at 18:23 into the second.

The win gave Ottawa a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Charlie Millen frustrated Nepean's offense all game, and stopped 25 shots en route to a shutout. Millen managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 1.24 prior to the game.

The Senators forced Raiders' goaltenders to work in net, taking 36 shots and forcing 31 saves. Matt Zawadzki made 28 stops and Ryan Mulder made three. Ottawa's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Nepean power plays.

Eric Witzel also scored for Ottawa. In addition, Ottawa received assists from Eric Clitsome, who had two, Joe Shecter, who had three, and Mike Martin, Chris King, Greg Jansz, Joey Champigny, and Luc Deschamps, who contributed one a piece.

The Senators totaled 23 minutes in penalty time with nine minors and one major and went 2-for-7 on the power play. For Ottawa, Michael Evelyn was ejected from the game. The Raiders incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. Nepean ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Cameron Yarwood was ejected from the game.
