Kingston beats Newmarket 6-4 after comeback scare

The Newmarket Hurricanes tried to dig themselves out of a four-goal hole, but the Kingston Voyageurs held on for a 6-4 victory.

Kingston took a 6-2 lead during the second period, only to have Newmarket storm back on a Ian Farrell goal 12:25 into the third period to pull to two goals down.

The Voyageurs evened the best of seven series at 3-3 and forced a deciding game seven.

Kingston stifled the Hurricanes' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

The Voyageurs were led by Dylan Hutton, who finished with two goals. Hutton scored the first of his two goals at 1:21 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Kingston. Graham Yeo picked up the assist. Hutton's next tally made the score 3-2 Kingston with 10:08 left in the second period. Francesco Vilardi also scored for Kingston. In addition, Kingston received assists from Josh Hicks, Kris Grant, and Brandon O Quinn, who contributed one a piece.

Newmarket kept Kingston's goalie busy throughout the game, and Charlie Finn made 29 saves on 33 shots.

The Hurricanes were led by Justin Maiolino, who grabbed one goal and three assists. Maiolino scored 18:25 into the first period to make the score 2-2. Travis Dermott provided the assist. Newmarket also got points from Daniel Leavens, who also registered two goals and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Newmarket were Jordan Dunin and Elliott Burlon, who each chipped in one.

The Voyageurs incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Matthew Wintjes recorded 20 saves for Newmarket. The Hurricanes incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
