Kingston rides Finn to victory over Newmarket, 3-1

Charlie Finn stood on his head and made 31 saves to lead the Kingston Voyageurs to a 3-1 victory over the Newmarket Hurricanes.

The win by Kingston broke a deadlock and gave the Voyageurs a 2-1 advantage in the best of seven series.

Kingston was led by Jarret Kup, who tallied one goal. Kup scored 8:13 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Kingston. David Quesnele assisted on the tally.

The Voyageurs excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Kingston forced Newmarket goalie Matthew Wintjes to work between the pipes, taking 54 shots. The defensemen of the Voyageurs were also effective in the Hurricanes' zone, and came away with two goals.

Kingston additionally got points from Brett Du Puy, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Ludlow Harris, who also had one goal and one assist.

Kingston was unable to stop Newmarket from sending pucks towards the net, and the Hurricanes eventually piled up 32 shots on goal.

Newmarket was led by Daniel Leavens, who scored the team's only goal. Leavens scored 5:06 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Newmarket. Alex Bontje picked up the assist.

The Voyageurs incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Kingston ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Dylan Hutton was ejected from the game. Wintjes recorded 51 saves for the Hurricanes. Newmarket incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
