MacKinnon stymies Mississippi Surge, Pensacola wins 4-1

The Pensacola Ice Flyers relied on the sparkling performance of Ross MacKinnon in net to grab a 4-1 win against Mississippi Surge.

After the loss made the series score 1-0 in the best of three series, Mississippi Surge faces elimination next time out.

Pensacola was sparked by Brandon Vossberg, who tallied one goal. Vossberg scored 13:24 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Pensacola. Steve Bergin assisted on the tally.

The Ice Flyers forced Mississippi Surge goalie Kiefer Smiley to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots. Pensacola's defensemen bolstered the Ice Flyers' offensive attack, as they bombarded Smiley with 13 shots.

Pensacola also got points from Bergin, who also registered one goal and one assist and John Dunbar, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Pensacola also got a goal from Mitchell Good as well. Other players who recorded assists for Pensacola were Brad Cooper, Ron Cramer, Tyler Soehner, and Patrick Knowlton, who each chipped in one.

Mississippi Surge's offense rang up 31 shots on Pensacola's net.

Mississippi Surge was led by Branden Kosolofsky, who scored the team's only goal. Kosolofsky scored on the power play 2:25 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Pensacola. Mississippi Surge had gained a power play chance when Knowlton was whistled for cross checking. Nathan Oke picked up the assist.

MacKinnon rejected 30 shots on goal for the Ice Flyers. Pensacola incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Mississippi Surge's Smiley stopped 28 shots out of the 31 that he faced. Mississippi Surge incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
