Huntsville downs Fayetteville in overtime, 5-4 (OT)Crown Coliseum Thu, Mar 28, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Huntsville Havoc pulled out a 5-4 (OT) overtime victory over the Fayetteville FireAntz on a clutch goal by Mike Gurtler. The win by Huntsville clinched the best of three series at 2-0. Gurtler had a great game for the Havoc, netting two goals. Gurtler's tallies came on the power play at 8:44 into the first period to make the score 3-0 Huntsville and 9:12 into the fourth to make the score 5-4 Huntsville. In a losing effort, Fayetteville was led by Brett Liscomb, who registered two goals. Liscomb scored the first of his two goals at 15:20 into the first period to make the score 3-2 Huntsville. Brock Sawyer provided the assist. Liscomb's next tally made the score 4-4 with 16 seconds left in the third period. Huntsville stifled the FireAntz's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Havoc's offense rang up 31 shots on Fayetteville's net. The defensemen of Huntsville were also effective in the FireAntz's zone, and came away with two goals. Huntsville also got points from Leland Fidler, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Huntsville also got a goal from Paul DAgostino as well. Other players who recorded assists for Huntsville were Stuart Stefan and Nick Lazorko, who each chipped in one and Kyle Laughlin and Justin Cseter, who contributed three a piece. Fayetteville kept the Havoc's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jesse Kallechy made 40 saves on 44 shots. Bobby Reed also scored for Fayetteville. In addition, Fayetteville received assists from Corey Toy, Ben Contini, Josh McQuade, and Andrew Smale, who each chipped in one. Huntsville incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Marco Emond made 26 saves for the FireAntz on 31 shots. Fayetteville incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. For the FireAntz, Brandon Richardson was ejected from the game.
