St. Catharines beats Thorold 5-0 as Santana gains shutout

Stormer Santana made 41 saves to complete the shutout and led the St. Catharines Falcons to a 5-0 win against the Thorold Blackhawks.

The win by St. Catharines broke a deadlock and gave the Falcons a 2-1 advantage in the best of seven series.

Aaron Taylor had a great game for St. Catharines, netting two goals. Taylor's tallies came at 56 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Catharines and 9:45 into the third to make the score 4-0 St. Catharines.

The Falcons excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. St. Catharines kept Thorold's goalie busy throughout the game, and Vinny Merante made 32 saves on 37 shots.

St. Catharines additionally got points from Tyler Jackson, who also registered one goal and one assist. Ed Creighton also scored for St. Catharines. In addition, St. Catharines received assists from Jimmy Sheehan, Kyle Woodhouse, Greg Jambrosich, Dan MacEachern, Jesse Miller, Spencer DeWolfe, Julian Luciani, and Luke Karaim, who each chipped in one.

The Blackhawks stifled the Falcons' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Thorold forced St. Catharines goalie Santana to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots.

The Falcons incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. The Blackhawks incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
