Buffalo falls to North York in overtime, 2-1 (OT)

The North York Rangers pulled out a 2-1 (OT) overtime victory over the Buffalo Jr. Sabres on a clutch goal by Corey Kalk.

The win by North York clinched the best of seven series at 4-2.

Buffalo was stymied by the Rangers netminder Jason Pucciarelli, who stopped 50 shots during the victory. Pucciarelli managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.21 prior to the game.

North York was led by Kalk, who registered one goal. Kalk scored 10:17 into to make the score 2-1 North York. John Carpino provided the assist.

The Rangers excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. North York kept the Jr. Sabres' goalie busy throughout the game, and Parker Gahagen made 62 saves on 64 shots.

Franco Loparco also scored for North York. In addition, North York received assists from Liam Kerins, Max Novick (AP), and Scott Maguire, who each chipped in one.

Buffalo put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Rangers to score on any of their eight power plays. The Jr. Sabres forced North York goalie Pucciarelli to work between the pipes, taking 51 shots.

Buffalo was led by Ryan Schmelzer, who scored the team's only goal. Schmelzer scored 9:42 into the third period to make the score 1-1. Tyler Gjurich picked up the assist.

The Rangers ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. Team's Ryan Kinsella and Dana Tenenbaum were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. The Jr. Sabres ended with 29 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major. Buffalo ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and David Seward was ejected from the game.
