Huge game by Klie boosts Cambridge over Kitchener, 8-1

The Cambridge Winter Hawks were firing on all cylinders against the Kitchener Dutchmen, and when the final buzzer sounded Winter Hawks emerged with an 8-1 win.

The win moved Cambridge to down 2-1 in the best of seven series.

Mitch Klie was all over the ice for the Winter Hawks, as he tallied two goals and two assists in the win. Klie scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 13:52 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Cambridge. Cambridge had taken the advantage when Kitchener's John Divo got sent off for high sticking. Todd Bannerman provided the assist. Klie's next tally on the power play made the score 6-1 Cambridge with 16:10 left in the third period. Chris Taylor picked up the assist.

The Winter Hawks were led by goalie Lucas Machalski, who finished with 30 saves while allowing one goal. The solid play of Machalski will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.41.

Cambridge forced Dutchmen's goaltenders to work between the pipes, firing 52 shots and forcing 44 saves. Marc Williams made 32 stops and Jack Moylan made 12. The Winter Hawks excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances.

Cambridge additionally got points from Cody Gratton, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Maxime Lamontagne, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Bannerman, who also tallied two goals and one assist. Cambridge also had goals scored by Hudson Michaelis and Tyler Snyder, who scored one goal each. In addition, Cambridge received assists from Alex Bottigoni, who had one and Kyle Locke, who had two.

The Dutchmen forced Cambridge goalie Machalski to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

The Winter Hawks incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. For Cambridge, Brennon Pearce was ejected from the game. Kitchener incurred 44 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
