Welland squeaks by Port Colborne, 4-2

The Welland Jr. Canadians gutted out a close 4-2 win against the Port Colborne Pirates.

Welland gained the winning advantage on a goal by Drake Lynds 4:44 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

With the win, the Jr. Canadians evened the series at 2-2 in the best of seven showdown.

In the losing effort, Port Colborne was sparked by Bryan Komasara, who finished with two goals. Komasara scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 6:22 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Port Colborne. The Pirates earned a power play opportunity when Aaron Beally was put in the box for cross checking. Jordan Warren picked up the assist. Komasara's next tally on the power play made the score 2-0 Port Colborne with 9:46 left in the first period. Port Colborne had gotten the advantage when Welland's Derrik Vannas was sent off for high sticking. Dayne Phillips assisted on the tally.

In the losing effort, the Pirates were led by Komasara, who racked up two goals.

The Jr. Canadians forced Port Colborne goalie Real Cormier to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots.

Welland additionally got points from Matt Gillard, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Chris Langdon, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Josh Gervais also scored for Welland. Other players who recorded assists for Welland were Braden Curry, who had two and Adam Mataya and Matthew Mateljan, who contributed one a piece.

Welland was unable to stop the Pirates from sending pucks towards the net, and Port Colborne eventually piled up 42 shots on goal.

In addition, Port Colborne received assists from Charlie Izaguirre, who had one.

The Jr. Canadians' Chris McDougall stopped 40 shots out of the 42 that he faced. Welland incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Cormier rejected 31 shots on goal for the Pirates. Port Colborne incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
