Huge game by Dermott boosts Newmarket over Lindsay, 5-2

Behind a great game by Travis Dermott, who had one goal and two assists, the Newmarket Hurricanes defeated the Lindsay Muskies, 5-2.

Dermott beat Tanner Davis with a shot 16:57 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Newmarket. Ryan Johnson provided the assist. Dermott dished an assist on Chris Chiste's goal that made the score 2-2 at 16:45 into the second period. He added another helper on Taylor Chick's goal that made the score 5-2 Newmarket at 18:08 into the third period.

The win gave Newmarket a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The Hurricanes kept Lindsay's goalie busy throughout the game, and Davis made 34 saves on 39 shots.

Newmarket also got points from Chiste, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Chick, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Daniel Leavens, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Newmarket also got a goal from Calvin Higley as well. In addition, Newmarket received assists from Brandon Francisco and Kyler Nixon, who each chipped in one.

The Muskies' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Lindsay was helped by Brian Hubers, who registered one goal. Hubers scored on the power play 15:46 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Lindsay. An interference penalty on Jeff Murray had put the Muskies on the power play. Louis-David Bourgault picked up the assist. Corey Jackson also scored for Lindsay. Other players who recorded assists for Lindsay were Vince Herlihey and Felix Chamberland, who contributed one a piece.

Newmarket's Matthew Wintjes stopped 23 shots out of the 25 that he faced. The Hurricanes incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Lindsay incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors.
