Piccolino stymies Brockville, Cornwall wins 2-1

Ed Lumley Arena    Sun, Mar 17, 2013

The Cornwall Colts relied on the sparkling performance of Jordan Piccolino in net to grab a 2-1 win against the Brockville Braves.

The win by Cornwall broke a deadlock and gave the Colts a 2-1 advantage in the best of seven series.

Cornwall was sparked by Mitch Zion, who tallied one goal. Zion scored 15:19 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Cornwall. Tanner Spink picked up the assist.

The Colts excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Cornwall forced Brockville goalie Andrew Pikul to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots.

Stephen Johnson also scored for Cornwall. In addition, Cornwall received assists from Lawson MacDonald, who had one and Carl Belizario, who had two.

The Braves put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Colts to score on any of their six power plays. Brockville's offense rang up 33 shots on Cornwall's net.

The Braves were led by Griffen Molino, who scored the team's only goal. Molino scored short handed 14:25 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Brockville. A tripping call on David Ferreira put Brockville on the penalty kill.

The Colts' Piccolino stopped 32 shots out of the 33 that he faced. Cornwall incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Pikul recorded 37 saves for the Braves. Brockville incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
