Cobourg falls to Kingston after surprising comeback

Undaunted by a two-goal deficit, the Kingston Voyageurs battled back to claim a 4-3 victory over the Cobourg Cougars.

Kingston never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Voyageurs was down 2-0 after a goal by Cobourg's Theo Lewis at 4:00 in the first period. Kingston tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Kris Grant at 12:45 in the third period. The Voyageurs netted the game winner at 19:06 in the third period on a goal by Grant.

The win gave Kingston a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Francesco Vilardi had two goals to lead the Voyageurs to victory.

Kingston's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Cobourg power plays. The Cougars were unable to stop the Voyageurs from sending pucks towards the net, and Kingston eventually piled up 42 shots on goal.

Kingston also got a goal from Michael Casale as well. Other players who recorded assists for Kingston were Josh Hicks, Graham Yeo, Brandon O Quinn, Dylan Hutton, and Brett Du Puy, who contributed one a piece.

Cobourg put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Voyageurs to score on any of their six power plays. The Cougars forced Kingston goalie Charlie Finn to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

Cobourg was helped by Dalton Bew, who registered one goal. Bew scored 6:09 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Cobourg. Corey Helliwell assisted on the tally. Conner Hogg also scored for Cobourg. More assists for Cobourg came via Dylan Goddard, Colbie Andrews, Justin Danforth, Connor Armour, and Mark MacAulay, who each chipped in one.

Finn recorded 30 saves for the Voyageurs. Kingston incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Cougars' CJ Sharp stopped 38 shots out of the 42 that he faced. Cobourg incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
