Atlanta Jr. Knights shrugs off penalties, upends Tampa Juniors, 6-1

Tampa Juniors failed to take advantage of its power play opportunities and Atlanta Jr. Knights shook off a number of penalties to win, 6-1.

The win gave Atlanta Jr. Knights a 1-0 lead in the best of one series.

Atlanta Jr. Knights was sparked by Tyler Pionk, who grabbed one goal. Pionk scored on the power play 4:31 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Atlanta Jr. Knights. Atlanta Jr. Knights had gotten the advantage when Tampa Juniors' Jared Goudreau was sent off for hooking. William Bray assisted on the tally.

Atlanta Jr. Knights also got points from Bray, who also registered one goal and one assist and Shaunak Pal, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Atlanta Jr. Knights also got a goal from Alexander Goodhue as well. In addition, Atlanta Jr. Knights received assists from Zachary Bakotic, who had three and Jeremy Bost, Derek Makimaa, Brent Wilcox, Hunter Scott, and Joseph Panek, who contributed one a piece.

Tampa Juniors was led by Tommy Whiteley, who scored the team's only goal. Whiteley scored on the power play 19:38 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Tampa Juniors. A slashing penalty on Wilcox had put Tampa Juniors on the power play. Scott Lemire picked up the assist.

Atlanta Jr. Knights incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Tampa Juniors incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
