Rochester Lourdes squeaks by St. Cloud Apollo, 6-4

The Rochester Lourdes Eagles and the St. Cloud Apollo Eagles were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Rochester Lourdes made the most of its opportunities and won, 6-4.

The Eagles gained the winning advantage on a goal by Mason Carstens 59 seconds into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

The win gave Rochester Lourdes a 1-0 lead in the best of one series.

Alex Funk was all over the ice for the Eagles, as he tallied two goals and two assists in the win. Funk scored the first of his two goals at 7:08 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Jason Samuelson provided the assist. Funk's next tally made the score 3-2 Rochester Lourdes with 8:45 left in the second period. Samuelson assisted on the tally.

Rochester Lourdes also got points from Samuelson, who also grabbed one goal and three assists. Montana Streit also scored for Rochester Lourdes. In addition, Rochester Lourdes received assists from Karl Krecke, who had two and Cody Cossette and Griffen Slightham, who each chipped in one.

St. Cloud Apollo was helped by Jared Christen, who racked up two goals. Christen scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 5:07 into the second period to make the score 2-1 St. Cloud Apollo. Jason Omann provided the assist. Christen's next tally on the power play made the score 3-3 with 7:18 left in the second period. Omann assisted on the tally. St. Cloud Apollo additionally got points from Omann, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. St. Cloud Apollo also got a goal from Brandon Bissett as well. More assists for St. Cloud Apollo came via Brandon Bloch, who had two and Jacob Kemp and Paul Kenney, who contributed one a piece.

Andrew Ellingson recorded 16 saves for Rochester Lourdes. The Eagles finished the contest with no penalties and went 1-for-0 with the man advantage. The Eagles' Nick Althaus stopped 18 shots out of the 24 that he faced. St. Cloud Apollo ended with no penalties and went 1-for-0 on the power play.
