Huge game by Pagendam boosts Thorold over Niagara Falls, 7-4

The Thorold Blackhawks' Tanner Pagendam had a big offensive game, scoring one goal and contributing two assists in his team's 7-4 win over the Niagara Falls Canucks.

Pagendam scored 19:25 into the first period to make the score 2-2. Tory McLean picked up the assist.

The win by Thorold clinched the best of seven series at 4-3.

Niagara Falls' seven penalties came back to haunt it, as the Canucks let up four goals while on the penalty kill.

In a losing effort, Niagara Falls was paced by Garrett Gallardi, who had two goals. Gallardi scored the first of his two goals at 2:22 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Niagara Falls. McLean provided the assist. Gallardi's next tally made the score 3-2 Niagara Falls with 16:01 left in the second period. The Canucks played down a man on Marcus Michalski's tripping.

The Blackhawks put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Niagara Falls to score on any of its four power plays. Thorold's offense rang up 36 shots on the Canucks' net. The Blackhawks' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in three goals.

Thorold additionally got points from Joel Forestell, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Tanner Hildbrant, who also finished with two goals and one assist, Myles Falasca, who also registered one goal and two assists, and Vince Dunn, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Thorold also got a goal from Mackenzie Mac Avoy as well. Other players who recorded assists for Thorold were Brian Brosnan, who had three and Kevin Millejours and Dan Chudobiak, who contributed one a piece.

Niagara Falls kept Thorold's goalie busy throughout the game, and Vinny Merante made 38 saves on 42 shots. The Canucks got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Drew Berkel also scored for Niagara Falls. In addition, Niagara Falls received assists from Sean Farquharson, Mitch McIntosh, Billy Saxton, and Denis Creighton, who each chipped in one.

The Blackhawks incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Thorold ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Forestell was ejected from the game. Niagara Falls' Hunter Johnson stopped 29 shots out of the 35 that he faced. The Canucks incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
