Jersey Wildcats falls to Suffolk Juniors after surprising comeback

Suffolk Juniors climbed out of a three-goal hole to beat Jersey Wildcats, 5-3.

Suffolk Juniors never led in the game until netting the game winner. Suffolk Juniors trailed 3-0 after a power play goal by Jersey Wildcats' Carmine Taffo at 9:25 in the first period. Suffolk Juniors knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Salvatore Geraci at 5:59 in the second period. Suffolk Juniors scored the game winner short handed at zero seconds in the third period on a goal by Geraci.

The win gave Suffolk Juniors a 1-0 lead in the best of one series.

Michael Vaiano had two goals to lead Suffolk Juniors to victory. Vaiano scored at 2:25 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Jersey Wildcats and again while 4:57 into the second to make the score 3-2 Jersey Wildcats.

Suffolk Juniors' offense rang up 44 shots on Jersey Wildcats' net. Suffolk Juniors' power play unit failed to produce, and was held to zero goals on nine chances.

Suffolk Juniors also got points from Geraci, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Suffolk Juniors also got a goal from Joseph Quinn as well. In addition, Suffolk Juniors received assists from Joseph Bizzaro, who had two, Daniel Lore, who had three, and Brandon Gaynor and Michael Gioia, who contributed one a piece.

Jersey Wildcats made Suffolk Juniors' goaltenders to work without much rest, getting 41 shots and forcing 38 saves. Anthony Pupplo made 23 stops and Eric Tatarian made 15. Jersey Wildcats stifled Suffolk Juniors' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Jersey Wildcats was led by Austin Gordon, who registered one goal and one assist. Gordon scored 4:23 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Jersey Wildcats. Nicholas Hermann provided the assist. Michael Matos also scored for Jersey Wildcats. Other players who recorded assists for Jersey Wildcats were Anthony Ricciardi and Ryan Demgard, who each chipped in one.

Suffolk Juniors incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Nathan Leo recorded 39 saves for Jersey Wildcats. Jersey Wildcats totaled 31 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major and went 1-for-6 on the power play.
