Centennial falls to Wayzata in overtime, 2-1 (OT)Xcel Energy Center Thu, Mar 07, 2013
The Wayzata Trojans pulled out a 2-1 (OT) overtime victory over the Centennial Cougars on a clutch goal by Chase Heising.
The Trojans were led by goalie Aaron Dingman, who finished with 30 saves while allowing one goal. Despite the solid performance, Dingman will actually see his goals against average rise, as it stood at 1.09 entering the contest. Wayzata was sparked by Heising, who registered one goal. Heising scored 4:01 into overtime to make the score 2-1 Wayzata. Chase Haller picked up the assist. The Trojans excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Jalen Wahl also scored for Wayzata. More assists for Wayzata came via Robert Zitzlperger, Matthew Freytag, and Alec Hemenway, who contributed one a piece. Centennial put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Wayzata to score on any of its three power plays. The Cougars' offense rang up 31 shots on the Trojans' net. Centennial was led by Adam Anderson, who scored the team's only goal. Anderson scored 53 seconds into the second period to make the score 1-0 Centennial. Andrew Bertrand provided the assist. Wayzata incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Patrick Munson rejected 20 shots on goal for the Cougars. Centennial incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
