Springfield beats Frederick 4-2 after comeback scare

The Frederick Freeze tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Springfield Pics would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-2.

Springfield took a 4-1 lead during the third period, only to have Frederick storm back on a Gregory Lane goal 18:09 into the third period to pull to two goals down.

The win gave the Pics a 1-0 lead in the best of one series.

Springfield was sparked by Zachary Smith, who registered one goal. Smith scored 18:31 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Springfield. Conner Brochu assisted on the tally.

The Freeze were unable to stop the Pics from sending pucks towards the net, and Springfield eventually piled up 38 shots on goal. The Pics had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just two goals on 10 chances.

Springfield also got points from William Carrabino, who also registered one goal and one assist and Jeremy Wich, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Joe Mercadante also scored for Springfield. In addition, Springfield received assists from Brandon Korytko, Nicholas Sibilia, and Thane Schinabeck, who contributed one a piece.

Frederick's offense rang up 32 shots on Springfield's net.

The Freeze were helped by Adam Taylor, who racked up one goal. Taylor scored on the power play 13:43 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Springfield. Frederick had gained a power play chance when Wich was whistled for roughing. Ian Soifer provided the assist. Other players who recorded assists for Frederick were Nicholas Price, who had one.

Ian Milosz rejected 30 shots on goal for the Pics. Springfield incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Michal Marcinek recorded 34 saves for the Freeze. Frederick incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors.
