Maksymum outlasts Suffolk, 4-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Maksymum Junior Hockey (Rochester) escaped with a 4-2 victory over the Suffolk Juniors.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Mikel Williams secured the win for Maksymum with a goal in the second period.

The win gave the Junior Hockey (Rochester) a 1-0 lead in the best of one series.

Maksymum's penalty kill excelled, as the Junior Hockey (Rochester) gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays.

Maksymum was led by Williams, who grabbed one goal. Williams scored 14:59 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Maksymum. Michael Whitehair assisted on the tally.

The Junior Hockey (Rochester) stifled Suffolk's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Maksymum forced the Juniors goalie Daniel Potter to work between the pipes, taking 57 shots.

Maksymum also got points from William Holbrook, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Maksymum also got a goal from Corey Sherman as well. More assists for Maksymum came via Daniel Goldstein, Tanner Woodruff, Bryan Carville, and Kyle Gannon, who contributed one a piece.

Suffolk was helped by Jason Reiter, who had one goal. Reiter scored 12:04 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Suffolk. Matthew Gault picked up the assist. Benjamin Sorkin also scored for Suffolk. In addition, Suffolk received assists from Nicholas Mangone, Nicholas Ambery, and Daylin Frantin, who each chipped in one.

Ian Sylves took the win and made three saves before being replaced by Ryan Morey who made 15 saves. The Junior Hockey (Rochester) incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with 12 minors. The Juniors' Potter stopped 53 shots out of the 56 that he faced. Suffolk incurred 36 minutes in penalty time with 13 minors. The Juniors ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Gault was ejected from the game.
