Syracuse downs Boston Bandits in overtime, 5-4 (OT)Ice Vault Rink Fri, Mar 15, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Joey Rutkowski gave the Syracuse Junior Stars a 5-4 (OT) victory over Boston Bandits when he scored 30 seconds into the extra period. The win gave Syracuse a 1-0 lead in the best of one series. The Junior Stars overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Syracuse fell behind 3-1 after a goal by Boston Bandits' Colton Hutton at 17:44 in the second period. The Junior Stars tied things up at 4-4 on a power play goal by Jesse Farabee at 8:57 in the third period. Syracuse was led by Rutkowski, who grabbed one goal and one assist. The Junior Stars excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The defensemen of Syracuse were also effective in Boston Bandits' zone, and came away with two goals. Syracuse additionally got points from Tyler OMara, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Anthony Angello, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, and Farabee, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Benjamin Engelbrekt also scored for Syracuse. More assists for Syracuse came via Nicholas Mercurio, Mike Seifert, and Garth Gray, who contributed one a piece. Boston Bandits kept the Junior Stars' goalie busy throughout the game, and Matt Schneider made 36 saves on 40 shots. Boston Bandits was led by Raymond Wilson, who racked up one goal and one assist. Wilson scored 2:56 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Boston Bandits. Aharon Lara provided the assist. Boston Bandits also got a goal from Michael Taormina as well. In addition, Boston Bandits received assists from Brandon Seal, Kevin Yun, Corbett McLucas, Erik Hajdu, and Thomas Daniels, who each chipped in one.
