Jersey Hitmen beats Frederick 3-2 after comeback scare

The Frederick Freeze tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but Jersey Hitmen held on for a 3-2 victory.

Jersey Hitmen made the score 3-1 on a goal by Brendan Riley at 12:06 in the third period, and Frederick got as close as 3-2 when Zachary Pard scored 19:04 into the third period.

The win gave Jersey Hitmen a 1-0 lead in the best of one series.

Jersey Hitmen kept the Freeze's goalie busy throughout the game, and Michal Marcinek made 31 saves on 34 shots.

Jersey Hitmen was led by David Kleyman, who had two goals. Kleyman scored the first of his two goals at 59 seconds into the second period to make the score 1-1. Luke Rodgers picked up the assist. Kleyman's next tally made the score 2-1 Jersey Hitmen with 17:48 left in the third period. Joe Campisano provided the assist. Other players who recorded assists for Jersey Hitmen were James Martello, Andrew Callahan, and Glenn Florczak, who contributed one a piece.

Frederick put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Jersey Hitmen to score on any of its six power plays. Jersey Hitmen was unable to stop the Freeze from sending pucks towards the net, and Frederick eventually piled up 32 shots on goal.

In addition, Frederick received assists from Reid Bibb and Logan Coomes, who each chipped in one.

Michael OMaley recorded 30 saves for Jersey Hitmen. Jersey Hitmen incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Freeze incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
