Junior Bruins blows out Maksymum, 6-1

Junior Bruins had a four-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 6-1 win over the Maksymum Junior Hockey (Rochester).

The win gave Junior Bruins a 1-0 lead in the best of one series.

Junior Bruins' Sam Dargene was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 33 saves and let only one puck past him. Dargene managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 1.38 prior to the game.

Junior Bruins' penalty kill excelled, as Junior Bruins gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

Junior Bruins made Junior Hockey (Rochester)'s netminders to work without much rest, taking 37 shots and forcing 31 saves. Jake Bryniarski made 21 stops and Ryan Morey made 10. Junior Bruins stifled Maksymum's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Junior Bruins was helped by Zachary Byczko, who tallied one goal. Byczko scored 14:45 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Junior Bruins. Thomas Fahey picked up the assist. Junior Bruins also had goals scored by Robert Houghton, who had two and Michael Kantorski, Benjamin Piecz, and Vince DAmato, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Junior Bruins were Kyle Webb, who had two and Bryan Carter, Paul Martone, Cam Cottam, Kyle Carlson, Matthew Brett, Ryan OToole, and Zach Koonce, who contributed one a piece.

The Junior Hockey (Rochester) forced Junior Bruins goalie Dargene to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots.

Corey Sherman also scored for Maksymum.

Junior Bruins totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 2-for-5 on the power play. Maksymum incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
