Picton pulls away in second, rolls over Port Hope, 5-1

The Port Hope Panthers was within striking distance after one period, but the Picton Pirates put the pedal down in the second en route to a 5-1 victory.

After the loss made the series score 3-0 in the best of seven series, Port Hope faces elimination next time out.

Picton's Adam Wood was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 39 saves and let only one puck past him. Wood managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 1.33 prior to the game.

The Panthers' power play was ineffective against the Pirates' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Picton's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on nine Port Hope power plays. The Pirates kept Port Hope's goalie busy throughout the game, and Wayne Fryer made 50 saves on 55 shots.

Picton was helped by Brian Bunnett, who had one goal. Bunnett scored on the power play 4:45 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Picton. The Pirates had taken the advantage when the Panthers' Chris Jones got sent off for high sticking. Cole Bolton assisted on the tally. Picton additionally got points from Jack Davison, who also registered one goal and one assist. Picton also got a goal from Levi George as well. More assists for Picton came via Nolan Powers, Jacob Panetta, Kenny Murduff, and Mitchell Smith, who contributed one a piece.

Picton was unable to stop Port Hope from sending pucks towards the net, and the Panthers eventually piled up 40 shots on goal.

The Pirates incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Port Hope incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Panthers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Ryan Wilkinson was ejected from the game.
