Picton holds on for 6-5 win against Port Hope

The Picton Pirates survived a determined comeback attempt by the Port Hope Panthers on the way to a 6-5 win.

Picton took a 5-3 lead during the third period, only to have Port Hope storm back on a Brad Heykoop goal 8:58 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The win gave the Pirates a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Picton got the win thanks to a great game by Jack Davison, who had two goals and one assist. Davison scored the first of his two goals at 4:09 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Picton. Nolan Powers provided the assist. Davison's next tally made the score 6-5 Picton with 5:19 left in the third period. Mitchell Smith assisted on the tally.

The Pirates were ineffective while on the power play, as they were held to one goal off of 11 man advantages.

Others who scored for Picton included Ryan Sizer, who had two and Levi George and Brian Bunnett, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Picton were Jacob Panetta and Kenny Murduff, who each chipped in one.

The Panthers were led by Nick Weiss, who registered two goals and one assist. Weiss scored the first of his two goals at 4:42 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Logan Arsenault provided the assist. Weiss' next tally made the score 2-1 Port Hope with 10:22 left in the second period. Arsenault picked up the assist. Jacob Spicer also scored for Port Hope. More assists for Port Hope came via Connor Lowry, Dan Lagrois, and Keifer Macinnis, who contributed one a piece.

Andrew Pearson made 17 saves for Picton on 22 shots. The Pirates incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Port Hope's Branson Schell stopped 23 shots out of the 29 that he faced. The Panthers incurred 42 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
