Sheeran's big game bests Burlington in 6-2 Buffalo win

Nolan Sheeran had two goals and three assists to lead the Buffalo Jr. Sabres to a 6-2 victory over the Burlington Cougars.

Sheeran scored at 11:26 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Buffalo and again while 44 seconds into the third to make the score 4-2 Buffalo.

The win by Buffalo clinched the best of seven series at 4-0.

The Jr. Sabres stifled Burlington's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Buffalo kept the Cougars' goalie busy throughout the game, and Alex Murray made 39 saves on 45 shots.

Buffalo also got points from Tyler Gjurich, who also racked up one goal and two assists and Ryan Schmelzer, who also tallied one goal and two assists. Buffalo also got a goal from Brian Ruff as well. Other players who recorded assists for Buffalo were Max Mikowski, who had one and Dylan Howatt, who had two.

The Jr. Sabres were unable to stop Burlington from sending pucks towards the net, and the Cougars eventually piled up 37 shots on goal.

Burlington was helped by Brett Coulson, who registered one goal. Coulson scored 18:50 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Burlington. Mark Rodgers picked up the assist. Mike Sones also scored for Burlington. More assists for Burlington came via Steven Mueller, Cooper Richards, and Jeremy Gottzmann, who contributed one a piece.

Parker Gahagen made 35 saves for Buffalo on 37 shots. The Jr. Sabres incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Cougars totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 0-for-3 on the power play. Burlington ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Gottzmann was ejected from the game.
