Burlington falls to Buffalo in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

The Buffalo Jr. Sabres pulled out a 5-4 (OT) overtime victory over the Burlington Cougars on a clutch goal by Tyler Gjurich.

After the loss made the series score 3-0 in the best of seven series, Burlington faces elimination next time out.

Gjurich had a great game for Buffalo, netting two goals. Gjurich found the back of the net short handed 59 seconds into the second period to make the score 2-1 Buffalo and again while short handed 3:35 into the fifth to make the score 5-4 Buffalo.

The Jr. Sabres put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Cougars to score on any of their five power plays. Burlington was unable to stop Buffalo from sending pucks towards the net, and the Jr. Sabres eventually piled up 62 shots on goal.

Buffalo also got a goal from Max Mikowski as well. Other players who recorded assists for Buffalo were Nathan Pelligra, who had two and Ryan Schmelzer, Derek Patterson, Brian Ruff, and Pat Egan, who contributed one a piece.

The Cougars' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Buffalo power plays. Burlington's offense rang up 42 shots on Buffalo's net.

The Cougars were led by Jeremy Gottzmann, who registered one goal and three assists. Gottzmann scored 13:24 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Adam Glynn provided the assist. Burlington additionally got points from Mike Sones, who also had one goal and one assist and Steven Mueller, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Cooper Richards also scored for Burlington. More assists for Burlington came via Joe Sullivan, who had one.

Parker Gahagen recorded 38 saves for the Jr. Sabres. Buffalo incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Burlington's Alex Murray stopped 57 shots out of the 62 that he faced. The Cougars incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
