Niagara Falls downs Thorold in overtime, 3-2 (OT)Thorold Community Arena Wed, Mar 06, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Niagara Falls Canucks pulled out a 3-2 (OT) overtime victory over the Thorold Blackhawks on a clutch goal by Michael Christou. After the loss made the series score 3-1 in the best of seven series, Thorold faces elimination next time out. Johnny Curran had a great game for Niagara Falls, netting two goals. Curran's tallies came on the power play at 1:08 into the third period to make the score 1-1 and 2:08 into the third to make the score 2-1 Niagara Falls. The Canucks pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 38 penalty minutes. The Blackhawks were unable to stop Niagara Falls from sending pucks towards the net, and the Canucks eventually piled up 38 shots on goal. In addition, Niagara Falls received assists from Darren Young, who had two and Cam Stewart, Drew Berkel, Marcus Michalski, and Vito Scaringi, who contributed one a piece. Thorold's offense rang up 35 shots on Niagara Falls' net. The Blackhawks were held back by their power play unit, which tallied one goal on nine chances. Thorold was helped by Chris Goulet, who racked up one goal. Goulet scored 2:41 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Mark Arnone picked up the assist. Thorold also got a goal from Owen Sobchak as well. More assists for Thorold came via Matt Pizzo, Myles Falasca, and Mackenzie Mac Avoy, who each chipped in one. Hunter Johnson rejected 33 shots on goal for the Canucks. Niagara Falls registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. Vinny Merante recorded 35 saves for the Blackhawks. Thorold incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
