Oakville downs North York in overtime, 5-4 (OT)Sixteen Mile Sports Complex Fri, Mar 01, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Jonah Renouf gave the Oakville Blades a 5-4 (OT) victory over the North York Rangers when he scored 4:42 into the extra period. With the win, Oakville evened the series at 1-1 in the best of seven showdown. Although the Blades was up by as many as two goals in the third period, North York kept the game interesting by staging a comeback that ultimately fell short. The Rangers got to within 4-3 on a power play goal by Corey Kalk at 11:49 in the third period. In the losing effort, North York was sparked by Liam Kerins, who racked up two goals and one assist. Kerins scored the first of his two goals at 10:55 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Oakville. Kerins' next tally made the score 4-4 with 44 seconds left in the third period. The Rangers earned a power play opportunity when Kyle Jenkins was put in the box for head contact. Kalk picked up the assist. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 10:24 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. Oakville also got points from Jimmy Cusan, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Len Fabbri, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Luke Laidlaw, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Oakville also got a goal from Rory Bell as well. In addition, Oakville received assists from Spencer Green, who had two and Eli Berg and Patrick Chore, who contributed one a piece. North York excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. Oakville was unable to stop the Rangers from sending pucks towards the net, and North York eventually piled up 42 shots on goal. North York additionally got points from Kalk, who also had one goal and two assists. John Carpino also scored for North York. More assists for North York came via Valadao Adam, who had one and Patrick Piacentini, who had two. The Blades' Evan Buitenhuis stopped 38 shots out of the 42 that he faced. Oakville ended with 39 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major. For the Blades, Laidlaw was ejected from the game. Jason Pucciarelli made 16 saves for the Rangers on 21 shots. North York totaled 31 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major and went 2-for-8 on the power play. The Rangers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Chris Aitcheson was ejected from the game.
